Tuscan farmhouse restaurant

The TOSCANA FAIR farmhouse restaurant in Pistoia grew out of the Mati brothers’ idea to convey their great passion for cooking and for Tuscany.

 

The name TOSCANA FAIR (Fiera Toscana) comes from the idea of offering a show of emotions, through returning to the flavors of the past and offering simple, traditional menus using carefully selected raw materials that come from Mati’s own farm production or from scrupulously chosen Tuscan farms.

OUR STORY

The natural balance of things

Our story starts here, in the Pistoia area, from that extraordinary element which, beginning in the late 1800s, allowed the city’s development to be so essentially tied to nature.

Vegetable gardens, fruit orchards, cattle farms on the plains for fresh milk, and sheep farms in the hills for ricotta and pecorino production… with nature at the heart of a philosophy of life.

With our vast experience in the world of landscape architecture, we have created a garden to welcome you and give you an unforgettable experience surrounded by greenery despite being just outside the city limits.
We offer dinners, events, and aperitifs outdoors, where our dishes can be enjoyed in the large paved area or by candlelight under the gazebo surrounded by plants and flowers that garnish a beautiful setting.

Orto Fair

The source of inspiration for Orto Fair is a large kitchen garden as a magical place where one can be completely at ease and savor freshly picked products. This latest creation revitalizes great-grandfather Casimiro’s ancient tradition and carries forward over time the great garden tradition that has always distinguished the Mati family. The watchword for a fair and equitable kitchen garden is ``equilibrium”, i.e., growing vegetables that fully respect nature and its rules. It all begins with the land, to better understand a cuisine and learn the secrets for growing healthful, high-quality vegetables used to prepare dishes whose good, honest flavors are linked to the past, but look toward the future. Paolo Mati and Chef Vincenzo Volpe seasonally select seeds from all over the world to grow plants with distinct or original fruits and roots. In addition to products closely related to the Tuscan tradition, a whole series of first fruits from every where are grown for the Orto Fair, which offers displays as well as tastings of Florentine purple eggplants and White Egg eggplants that look just like an egg, Florentine and yellow zucchinis as well as different varieties of (Rodeo) patty-pan zucchinis, plus beef, Sun Black, or Pineapple tomatoes, the last one originating in the Hawaiian islands. Let’s not forget that the truly rare varieties of tomatillo, papquino, and the Striped Toga eggplant can also be seen and tasted. Consequently, the Orto Fair not only offers and opportunity to unwind and to taste rare and tasty delicacies but also a means to spread green culture. We often host schools, groups, friends interested in getting to know firsthand all these specific varieties of plants and vegetables. Our kitchen garden is tradition, culture, and passion...
